I had one night in Covington as I was passing by on my way back to Houston. I was determined to have the best poboy in town and Yelp took me to Vazquez. And I was not disappointed.
I came in 30mins before they close and the place was rather empty. You can miss the restaurant as its in between two fairly bigger establishments.
The shrimp poboy was great, sandwich was crispy and soft and portion was generous. Certainly recommend this! -

Yummy! Staying at the Southern Hotel in Covington is a treat. The staff recommended an upscale restaurant nearby but instead I chose this hole in the wall. I had wanted local flavor. I wasn't disappointed! A few members of the family say in back conversing quietly, and I ordered a shrimp po-boy and a cup of gumbo. Although the presentation wasn't eye-popping, what matters is the flavor, and I loved it and gobbled it up.
Hit the spot and supercharged me for stroll around the quaint downtown of Covington, down to the Bogue Falaya Park and into the Trace, a beautifully converted 'rails to trails' walking path over a bridge to nearby communities.
It proves that enjoying local flavor doesn't cost much and can be quite the delight. -

Vazquez is a old school New Orleans style neighborhood restaurant. It is owned by a Cuban family and run as a family restaurant to the point of kids helping out on the floor and the sweet older lady they call abuella. The menu is typical NOLA, poboys (all the usual suspects) daily specials, pasta, and a few Cuban favorites to include a good Cuban sandwich and excellent black beans and rice. Are there better dining options on the same street? Yes, but Vasquez consistently serves up a good bite at a bit of a bargain.

My absolutely favorite place! Love the people & the food!! Best seafood restaurant in downtown poboys, platters, & pastas. Every time I come in they make me feel right at home, even the regular customers are fantastic people!

Met an old friend here for lunch and a slow chat. Nice, locally owned restaurant serving some solid southern food at good prices. Friendly staff and a decor that was simple but worked. I had a standard of Red Beans and Rice with sausage which was good. My friend had the shrimp Poboy with gumbo which he said was solid. All in all a nice place to stop in for some southern standards.
